Another Robbery on 17th, Between P and Q Streets

Another robbery on the 17th Street corridor, this one at 8:32 this evening between P and Q Streets NW. This is a heavily traveled section of 17th Street with restaurants, clubs and businesses on the east side and residential buildings on the west side.

Moreover, 17th Street has long been considered a “safe place” at night, someplace where many people take their dogs for bedtime walks, go to get groceries, etc.

  1. I don’t think it’s that hard to figure out where the crime is coming from. You know who is doing it so be on the lookout for groups of young “gangstas”. Effectively, there is no punishment for their crimes – no jail time or in and out so quick, it would make your head swim. The problem is not the cops; It’s the DC court system.
Living the thug life is celebrated in some quarters. Don’t be surprised by the behavior or expect it to go away anytime soon.

  2. This makes me mad. Clearly the muggers are not concerned about a police presence or response. Time to re-assess the neighborhood patrol!

  3. Our police are only responders, after the crime has been committed. Under Fenty, we stand no chance of improvement. Crime is on the rise, the garbage does not get picked up on schedule, but Mayor gets police escorts while riding his bicycle. We are reverting to the Barry days.

  4. What in the hell is going on these days? Are the police this inept, or is this surge in crime related to something we haven’t paid attention to?

  5. There will be more information from the police when updates are posted on the MPD 2nd District listserv on Yahoo! Groups. 17th Street is in PSA 208 (2D), while the are east of 15th Street (for the most part) is in PSA 307 (3D).

  6. Why don’t they identify the race of the assailant, as was the practice years ago? That, along with other identifying characteristics, may help capture this criminal.

  9. Robbery fear? These alerts are meaningless. I have no idea what robbery fear means

    Comment by b young | February 3, 2010 | Reply

    • It means that fear was used to rob the person. If a gun or knife had been used, the alert would have noted that. It probalby means that the victim was threatened.

  10. Where are the police? Sitting in front of 7-11 as usual, I imagine.

  11. Where are the police? This is absurd.
