Shaw Middle School principal slain. Brian Betts, the principal of Shaw Middle School at Garnet-Patterson (10th and U Streets NW) was found slain in his Silver Spring home last Thursday. According to numerous media accounts, Betts was well liked at the school and in the neighborhood, and helped improve Shaw Middle School. On Saturday, a resident of the Rhapsody Condos at V and Vermont, NW invited neighbors to leave messages on the sidewalk in front of the school about Betts, who was well known in the area. Chalk was left and students wrote messages on the sidewalk and on the school door.

Washington metro area No. 30 for business. Washington Business Journal notes that Forbes magazine lists the Washington metro area as Number 30 out of 200 on its list of best places to do business—note that this is the metro are, not just DC.

A Thai restaurant coming to 1323 14th Street? A local source says he talked to workmen last week at the now-vacant property at 1323 14th Street NW and that the space will be the home of a new Thai restaurant—right across the street from Thaitanic. The space formerly housed BioScrip Pharmacy.

DC Agenda interviews Real World’s Mike Manning. DC Agenda has an interview with the the bisexual cast member of Real World DC, Mike Manning. Also, DC Agenda noted that the season finale attracted the fewest viewers in the 23-history of MTV’s Real World series.

Updates at Who Murdered Robert Wone? The editors at this site are posting away in preparation for the upcoming trail of three defendants next month for obstruction of justice in the Robert Wone murder case (no one has been charged in Wone’s murder). The most recent updates from last week: “Beyond Marriage… Media Advisory… and Advice and Consent.” Wone was murdered August 2, 2006, in a house on the 1500 block of Swann Street NW under very unusual circumstances.
